Night electrofishing
Boat electrofishing surveys and gill nets are used in large riverine and lacustrine habitats to evaluate the fisheries community. Information collected from fisheries evaluations can be used to determine fish abundance, species composition, population dynamics, bioenergetics modeling, and biomass estimates. In addition, stomach contents can be removed in the field, and a complete dietary analysis can be conducted without harming the fish.

Backpack electrofishing surveys are conducted in small headwater tributaries to evaluate the fisheries community.

Fish age structure can be important to evaluate the potential reproductive success of a specific fish species. Scales can be collected during fisheries evaluations and used to determine fish age or cohort. The presence of annular formations on scales indicate fish age. Age validation can be conducted by examining fish bony structure. Fish otoliths are commonly used for this analysis.
